Reflecting on DS FA

I really enjoy DS as a module, and am very proactive in the classes. Thus I was moderately confident about the result. Yet i had set my bar and expectations low since this was our first FA submission. I was pleasantly surprised on receiving the feedback.

One thing that was unanimous across all the feedback’s was my engagement. I love interacting in class with my tutors and peers and expressing my opinions, Which I regard as the key area of my strength. My positive attitude towards feedback and constructive criticism, as Well as my willingness to improve, along with my punctuality and constant timely submission also adds on to my credibility.

In case of think lab, my positive spirit towards group work and active engagement with my peer was another factor that worked in my favour.

My reflections, though decent, failed to express my deeper thoughts and insight. This was one of the major gaps in my approach to term one and did affect my ability to convey my design thinking process as well as my ability to tap into the unconscious thoughts and draw out inspiration.

Fortunately, the term 1 feedback can help me improve the outcome of the 2nd term. Firstly, I would want to work on my reflections and writing skills. I need to make deeper connections and carefully assess the pros and cons of a situation. For this I’ll be watching video and reading books regarding the art of writing and expression of your thoughts. Secondly, I would like to improve upon my design terminology. This can be easily done by listening carefully to the faculty during the sessions and writing down the terms as used and explained by them. I will then try and in cooperate these in my day to day language. Finally, I would like to go a step further and explore more. I would like to add more personal research to my projects. I want to to dive deeper into the topics and go beyond what was necessitated, thus in cooperating my new found knowledge in my design ideations.

I believe that the only way of judging your improvement is via your own self. I am my biggest critic, so if I can please and impress myself with my improvement then I would regard that as a success.
