Updated: Feb 24, 2021

BACK TO DOODLING AND DRAWING

I went back to my first idea of Sonder and worked on my new form.

DOODLING

FINAL DRAWING

FINAL FORM

Brief

The goal is to make a 50 cm or bigger model, with spheres of rubber foam, in a “S” shaped configuration, depicting the idea of Sonder aka the realisation that every passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as yours. Depict the idea of Sonder through the quote “just like mood we all have phases”

PHASE 1- COMPONENTS

I went out and bought over 50 balls in different sizes. I then proceeded to ripe them and create textures. This was a very long and time consuming process

PHASE 2- ASSEMBLY

i used elfy and hot glue gun to assemble my model.

PHASE 3- FINISHING

I re-looked at the arrangement of my spheres. I relocated some spheres and added a few more towards the top to make it slightly tapered

FINAL OUTCOME

SONDER

The Making

MEANING

SONDER: the realisation that every passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your.

Quote used for inspiration to express sonder- “like moon we all have phases”

I wrote a poem to describe my form:

Walking on the street I noticed how every person was different.

With different clothes. Different walks. And different looks in their eyes.

And for a moment I started to wonder whether I was the main character of my movie.

Was I the sun of someone’s life or as irrelevant as smoke.

Every night in the moon light I lost myself in my thoughts as these strangers passed by me.

Some I saw up close and some only in the silhouettes.

They were, to me, like the phases of the moon, each having there own craters and crevices.

Yet bound by my thought of there life and it’s story.

DESCRIPTION

The foam balls stand as a representation of the moon and its phases. No two balls are the same in size or their texture. They are all different and unique. They are there own moon, going through phases that others might not notice or see from the front. The spiral configuration conveys the idea of self interaction and being surrounded by such unique people.

All coming together to make and depict Sonder.
